Our Approach
Who We Are & How We Work
Language Justice Solutions is a WORKER-OWNED COOPERATIVE rooted in Berkshire County. We are part of the solidarity economy, a movement that prioritizes collective ownership, mutual support, and community well-being over profit. The majority of our members are multilingual, bicultural individuals and English language learners from historically marginalized communities; people who have directly navigated exclusion and inequity and who now lead the work of bridging systemic gaps between institutions and the communities they serve.
We advance language access as a fundamental right, creating spaces where people can fully participate in their own languages. We work alongside communities, organizations, and institutions to transform practices; building systems that are not only more inclusive and accessible, but truly equitable and responsive.
We believe in the power of communities and in knowledge without borders. We create environments where voices are not only heard, but recognized as essential to shaping the systems that impact our collective lives.
Our Values
Maria Elisa Fuller
Through those moments, I developed a deep love for the beauty and power of the English language. At 17, I had my first job as a tutor, teaching basic English to middle school students in my home country, Ecuador.
After moving to the United States in 2001 and despite being fluent in English, the cultural shock was so overwhelming that I often struggled to form even a single sentence.
That experience deeply shaped my understanding of language beyond vocabulary and grammar; it taught me how closely language is tied to identity, confidence, and belonging.
My journey eventually led me to work in social service agencies across Berkshire County, where I came to understand how profoundly language barriers can impact a person’s ability to feel connected, safe, heard, and fully engaged in their community.
This understanding continues to guide my commitment to LJ and to helping create spaces where people can fully engage, participate, and feel a true sense of belonging in this new place they now call home.
